Spring conditions exist on the White Mtn Ranger District.   Backcountry temperatures can be downright cold in some instances. There is snow at higher elevations. Bring appropriate clothing. 

All roads in the area are open. The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest Visitor Center is open on weekends.

The White Mountain Ranger Station is open from 8:00 until 5:00, seven days a week.

Wilderness Permits are available at any Inyo National Forest visitor center. Winter season trips do not need a reservation. November 2 to April 30 self issue forms can be used for afterhours registration. Reservations for 2014 season wilderness permits are available at recreation.gov Please remember to CONFIRM the number of people on your trip via the recreation.gov site a few days before your trip.  This will hold your permit for pick-up after 10:00 AM - otherwise you may lose your reservation.

Open to Barcroft Gate, road is very rough. Wyman Canyon Rd. is impassable below Roberts Ranch.

Dispersed Camping : The Inyo National Forest permits camping in dispersed areas with some restrictions.  Note: Bristlecone Pine Forest is closed to dispersed camping, campfires and wood collection.

The visitor center is open on weekends. The White Mountain Road is open to Barcroft Gate, road is very rough, good tires a must. Wyman Canyon Road is impassable below Roberts Ranch.
