Mt. Hood National Forest Campsites Available During Memorial Day Weekend

Sandy, OR – Most campgrounds on the Mt. Hood National Forest will be open during Memorial Day weekend this year, and many are still available for reservation and on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Only the Mt. Hood’s higher elevation campgrounds will still be closed because of snow, including Trillium Lake, Frog Lake, Ollalie Lake area, and Alpine campgrounds. Popular campgrounds such as those in the Timothy Lake area, along the Clackamas River, Tollgate, Camp Creek, and Green Canyon Campgrounds are also open.

Camping fees range from $11 per night to $22 per night for single-occupancy campsites, depending on the site’s amenities. Because weather can change quickly on the mountain, campers should bring warm clothes and rain gear, and be prepared for cold, wet weather. While many of the Mt. Hood National Forest’s lower elevation trails are open, hikers are encouraged to turn around if they encounter snow.

“Memorial Day weekend is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the Forest,” said Paul Norman, Mt. Hood National Forest Recreation Program Manager. “There are plenty of really beautiful campsites still available.”

Campsite reservations can be made at www.recreation.gov, or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Reservations must be made two days in advance. Campsite information can be found on the Mt. Hood website, at http://www.fs.usda.gov/mthood/, or by calling a Forest district office.
