Plan Revision Collaboration
Welcome to the Nez Perce-Clearwater Forest Plan Revision Collaborative Process!
We are glad you are interested in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest, Forest Plan Revision Process. Under the 2012 planning rule we are working with all interested parties in a new, more efficient and collaborative way to revise our Forest plans. This is planned as an intensive two year collaborative process. Our collaborative effort was initiated in the Fall, 2012.
The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest is an “early adopter” Forest for Forest Plan revision. Early Adopter Forests, as announced in March, 2012 , were selected for a number of reasons including having engaged in recent, successful collaborative efforts.
Collaborative Process to Date
The Nez Perce Clearwater NF collaborative effort was initiated in September, 2012 with a series of community meetings where citizens gained a basic understanding of the new planning rule and the Forest Plan Revision collaborative process. In October, following the community meetings, a three day Summit, facilitated by University of Idaho staff, was held in Orofino, Idaho. At the summit interested citizens joined with cooperating agencies and Forest Service personnel to frame the collaboration effort. Between November, 2012 and May, 2013 and now beginning again in Feb, 2014 to May, 2014 persons interested in collaborating on the Forest Plan participate through monthly meetings and electronic comments to concurrently review and provide input on both the Draft Forest Plan Assessment and preliminary Forest Plan direction. All of this has been posted on our website. Lots of good information has been shared and discussed.
Forest Supervisor Rick Brazell thanks everyone for their willingness and time commitment to participate in this process. We appreciate all the information that has been provided. We encourage everyone to stay involved in the collaborative process as we continue towards development of a revised Forest Plan.
Collaborative Process: The Next Steps
June to September, 2013
Over the next three months our Forest Planning team will review and combine the collaborative input we’ve received with draft assessment information to produce an updated Draft Forest Plan Assessment. Our goal is to have this out for review and additional comments by Fall, 2013.
During this same timeframe we will also be drafting a purpose and need and proposed action to begin the NEPA process associated with plan revision. We hope to initiate scoping on this information around the first of the year. Once scoping is initiated, we will be seeking public comment on the proposed action. This information will then be used to develop alternatives and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and draft Land and resource Management Plan (LRMP) in 2014. Once the DEIS and Draft Plan is developed we will again ask for comments and develop a Final EIS and LMP and draft Record of Decision which will be issued in 2015.
September to December, 2013
It is our intent to host a series of community meetings once again in the Fall, 2013 to update citizens on the progress of the revision effort. We may host additional collaborative sessions or meetings to review and take citizen input on the work done over the summer.
Participating in the Revision Process
If you have been engaged in the process we encourage you to continue to stay involved.
If you have not yet joined us in this collaborative process and are interested in how the Forest will be managed into the future, we invite you to participate in this collaborative process.
There are a of number of ways citizens can participate ranging from attending community meetings to attending collaborative sessions to participating through e-collaboration using on-line WEB tools.

Input Received by July 1st, 2013
We will take input throughout the process using these WEB based tools. However, input provided by August 1st, 2013 will be most useful for revising our draft assessment and developing our proposed action by Summer, 2014. Input received later will be considered for future revisions of these documents.
