This week’s winter storm has brought deep powder snow to the Chelan area, making Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area a winter paradise for cross-country skiers and snowshoers. Only ten miles from historic downtown Chelan, Echo Ridge has over twenty miles of freshly groomed trails just waiting to be explored.
“Echo Ridge is a unique cross country ski location,” says Paul Willard, Chelan Ranger District’s Resource Assistant. “Our trails at Echo Ridge range between 3100-4000 ft. elevations. It is not uncommon to find yourself skiing above the clouds with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains.”
A series of maintained skate and classic ski trails and snow shoe trails trace the local ridges overlooking the Lake Chelan Valley. Trail maps are available at all trailheads and major trail intersections illustrating the variety of trails available for each skier’s skill level. A trail map can also be downloaded HERE.
Ski passes are required for both ski and snowshoe trail use. Day passes are available on-site for $10.00 per adult, with no charge for skiers or snowshoers age 17 and under. Season passes are available for $70.00 at the Chelan Ranger District office.
Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area is located follow the Manson Highway (SR-150) 2 miles to Boyd Road. Take a right onto Boyd Road and follow the signs to the Echo Valley Ski Area and snowmobile Sno-Park on the Copper Gulch Road. Past the downhill ski area, a Forest Service road winds uphill to the Nordic ski area trailheads. There is a lower parking lot for the Zoom Trailhead about 1 mile from Echo Valley. If you continue uphill you’ll reach the main parking areas referred to as the Lower and Upper Trailheads. Between the Zoom Trailhead and the Lower Trailhead, there’s also a small parking area named, The Shoe, for snow shoe use.
The Chelan Ranger District is located at 428 West Woodin Avenue in Chelan with office hours of 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
