Major Road Improvements Ongoing in Delmoe Lake Area
Butte, Mont., May 23, 2024 — The Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is currently performing a large road improvement project, funded by the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). The project includes Delmoe Lake Road, Delmoe Campground Road, and Highland Road in the Butte Ranger District.
The work includes aggregate placement, roadside brushing, culvert replacements, and improving drainage features, which will improve road conditions and increase comfort to the travelling public. The specific areas affected will be Delmoe Lake Road #222 (mile markers 0–19.9), Delmoe Campground Road #9371 (mile markers 0–0.77), Highland Road #84 (mile markers 0–0.6).
Access to Delmoe Lake will be maintained from either Homestake Pass or the Pipestone side of NFSR #222.
Forest road users should expect delays and/or temporary closures along these routes. Please obey all traffic control features and signs, and exercise caution in construction zones, particularly around equipment, haul trucks, and workers.
This project is funded by the Legacy Restoration Fund (LRF) established by the 2020 Great American Outdoors Act. The LRF is intended to respond to the growing backlog of deferred maintenance, which is currently $7.66 billion, comprised of $4.7 billion for roads and bridges, $540 million for trails and trail bridges, and $2.4 billion for buildings, visitor centers, campgrounds, and other types of facilities.
The contract for the project has been awarded to Cook and Sons Construction out of Grangeville, Idaho. Construction will be ongoing throughout the summer.
