Nettleton Gulch Fire Closure Lifted
Burned area hazards remain
Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, 8 July 2025— The Canfield Mountain Area Closure associated with the Nettleton Gulch Fire has been lifted. The Area Closure was necessary for public and firefighter safety during fire suppression operations. The Nettleton Gulch Fire occurred on National Forest System lands under the protection of the Idaho Department of Lands. Thanks to closely coordinated interagency firefighting efforts, the fire was 100% contained on 4 July 2025. Suppression repair work, including assessment and repair of trails impacted by fire suppression, is underway. Please be aware of firefighters working on and near trails.
Additional hazards may be present in any burned area, whether wildfire or prescribed fire. These hazards include unstable rocks and soil, fire-weakened trees, and stump holes. Trail users should maintain awareness of these hazards and exercise caution, especially during changing conditions like wind and rain. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Kootenai County first responders, firefighters, family members and the greater Coeur d’Alene community. The wildland fire community is inherently interagency and when one is impacted, we all are. As the USDA Forest Service we will stand together with our local government partners to offer any assistance we can throughout this tragic situation.
