Corral Creek (#989)

This short trail offers access to the southern end of the Big South Trail in the Comanche Peak Wilderness and to the Poudre River Trail in the backcountry system of Rocky Mountain National Park. 

General Information

No motorized transport or mechanized equipment. Camps, campfires and stock, where allowed, at least 200 feet from water and trails. Group size limited to 12 people or stock animals combined. Certified weed-free hay is required for stock. No campfires – stoves only. Overnight stock use prohibited. In Rocky Mountain National Park: Dogs are prohibited. Permit required for overnight camping in park.

Dogs must be on a hand-held least. Dogs are not allowed in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Directions

Travel 11 miles northwest of Fort Collins on U.S. Highway 287 to Colorado Highway 14. Turn left on CO 14, and travel 54 miles west to Forest Road 156, Long Draw Road, located across the highway from the Blue Lake Trailhead parking lot. Travel 8 miles to the Corral Creek Trailhead. The lower end of the trail can be accessed via the Big South Trail (#944); from CO 14 take the Long Draw Road for about 4 miles and take the left fork leading to Peterson Lake. At Peterson Lake look for the trailhead sign.

Parking

Corral Creek Trailhead accommodates approximately 8 vehicles, but no trailer parking.

Horse/Pack animals are allowed at this site.

Certified weed-free hay is required for stock. Overnight stock use prohibited.
