Horse Basin #471

The Horse Basin Trail #471 begins at Forest Service Road 740, Cement Creek Road, and comes to a dead end at about 10,400 feet in elevation. The trail crosses Cement Creek shortly after leaving FSR 740. It gently climbs with a few short steep parts and 4 easy stream crossings along the way. There are breath-taking views from this trail which include Cement Mountain, raising up 12,209 ft. and the Rosebud drainage below. Backcountry campsites are plentiful.

Directions

From Crested Butte: Travel south on Hwy 135 for approximately 7.5 miles to County Road 740, Cement Creek Road. This road becomes Forest Service Road 740 at the National Forest boundary. Turn left on FSR 740 and continue for approximately 6 miles to the beginning of the trail on the south side of the road.
