Seasonal area closure for Rock Climbing near Devils Head Trailhead
This order affects the South Platte Ranger District.
Please note that this closure is only in effect between March 1 and July 31 of each year.
The purpose of this Order is to protect American peregrine falcons, a species protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Forest Order
PROHIBITIONS
Pursuant to 16 United States Code (U.S.C.) § 551 and 36 Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.) § 261.50(a), the following acts are prohibited on those National Forest System Lands located within the South Platte Ranger District, Pike National Forest in Douglas County, located in the Southeast Quarter of Section 22 and the Southwest Quarter of Section 23, T. 9 S., R. 69 W., 6th PM; as depicted on the attached map, which is hereby incorporated into the Order as Exhibit A (the “Described Area”).
1.Going into or being upon the Described Area which is closed for the protection of rare species of birds between March 1st and July 31st of each year. The Prohibition specifically applies to climbing, rappelling or any rock climbing activities or other similar activities on the rocks and cliffsides of the Described Area. Hiking, camping and other such activities are allowed in the adjoining area unless otherwise prohibited. 36 CFR261.53(a)
EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
1.Persons with a USDA Forest Service permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
2.Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force, in the performance of any official duty.

DESCRIBED AREA
1.The Described Area is further defined as the cliffs and rock faces off Jackson Creek Road No. 502 located in the Southeast quarter of Section 22 and the Southwest quarter of Section 23, T. 9 S., R. 69 W.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Order is to protect American peregrine falcons, a species protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
IMPLEMENTATION
1. This Order shall be in effect annually between March 1st and July 31st of each year, from September 29, 2025, at 12:00 a.m. through September 28, 2030, at 11:59 p.m., unless rescinded.
2.A map identifying the Described Area is attached and made part of this Order as Exhibit A. For a digital version of this Order and Exhibit A, go to https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/psicc/alerts-notices.
3.Unless otherwise expressly defined in this Order, the terms used in this Order are defined by the regulations of the Secretary of Agriculture, 36 C.F.R. Chapter II, Parts200-299. If there are terms in this Order that are not expressly defined in the Order or36 C.F.R. Chapter II, Parts 200-299, their meaning shall be determined by their plain language definitions.
4.A violation of the above prohibitions is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, or by imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551; 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
