Silver Thread Campground

Silver Thread Campground has a small single loop  with 10 sites. Several are level, pull-through camping sites. This campground is located along State Highway 149 for easy access to through travelers on the Silver Thread Scenic Byway. It is located approximately ½ way between Creede, Colorado and Lake City, Colorado. 

The area offers fishing in South Clear Creek and Brown Lakes. Aspen provides shade for some of the campground sites while spruce trees abound on the surrounding hillsides. This is bear country and you will be required to practice safe food storage techniques.

A camp host is typically present in the campground from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day weekend.

Water is available in the campground during the summer season, typically Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. Outside of the summer season, potable water is NOT available in the campground.

All sites are first come, first served and cannot be reserved.

General Information

Trash service is provided by the concessionaire from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Outside of the summer season, there is no trash service.  Please pack out all garbage.

A short hike to view South Clear Creek Falls leaves from the back of the campground. The trail is approximately 0.25 miles one way. 

Open year-round, but may be inaccessible due to snow levels or spring road closures. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, there are higher fees, water, and trash service. During the off-season, there is a reduced fee, no water, and trash must be packed out.

Check in time is after 2:00 pm. Check out time is before 11:00 am.

Interagency Senior/Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount to single campsites ONLY.

*The discount applies only to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass holder, not to any additional fee or campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass holder's party.

Visit the USGS store for passes.

Interagency Recreation Passes are Honored for Day Use.

Please be prepared to pay with cash or check.

14-day camping limit.

Fires in designated fire rings only.

This can be bear country. Remain "Bear Aware" and store food properly while camping.

Must have a Colorado fishing license to fish in nearby creeks and lakes.

Day Use:
$12 per day
$10 per day (during shoulder season)
Overnight Use:
Single Site: $26 per night
Single Site Hookup: $31 per night
Single Site: $10 per night (during shoulder season)

Fee envelopes and a collection box are provided near the entrance.

Dogs must be on leash not longer than six feet in length.

Directions

From Creede, Colorado: Take State Highway 149 south (toward Lake City) 23 miles to the campground sign.  Turn right at sign into campground.

From Lake City: Take State Highway 149 south (toward Creede) over Slumgullion Pass and Spring Creek Pass for 29 miles and turn left at the campground sign. 

Parking

Maximum spur length is 45 feet. Not all sites will fit vehicles of this length.
