Dead Indian Campground

This campground hosts 10 campsites and a trailhead across State Highway 296. The trail climbs along Dead Indian Creek, through the Absaroka Wilderness, across Dead Indian Meadows, and up to the summit of Dead Indian Peak.

Stay limit is 16 days.

Maximum spur length is 32 feet .

Food storage is required in this campground - be prepared to store your food properly. Bear boxes available.

This site is first come, first served.

General Information

The south loop of the campground remains open (with no services) for use without a fee in the winter.

Interagency Senior/Access Recreation Passes provide a 50% discount to Single Campsites ONLY.
*The discount applies only to the fee for the campsite physically occupied by the pass holder, not to any additiol fee or campsite(s) occupied by members of the pass holder's party.*

Directions

From Cody, travel north on State Highway 120 for 16 miles. Turn left (west) on Chief Joseph Scenic Highway (State Highway 296). Travel west about 16 miles to the campground. Be advised, steep switchbacks.
