Moqui Group Campground

The Moqui Group Campground consists of three separate pods, capable of hosting large groups of up to 100 people. This campground is ideal for family reunions, company picnics, youth group outings and various social functions requiring single or multiple day/night use.

Moqui is approximately 40 miles southwest of Winslow, 50 miles northeast of Payson and 70 miles southeast of Flagstaff, in a beautiful setting surrounded by mature ponderosa pine, oak, and quaking aspen.

The Mogollon Rim Ranger District acknowledges, with gratitude, the donations and support extended by the Winslow Kiwanis Club in the development, concept, and construction of Moqui Group Campground.

Moqui Group Campground consists of three sites/pods: Simmons, Spooner and Ernst.

  • Each of the three individual pods can accommodate up to 50 people.
  • Simmons and Ernst pods may be reserved together for groups up to 100 people (50 people per pod).
  • Spooner Pod has a 50-person limit.
  • Spooner Pod is best suited for tent camping, while Simmons and Ernst pods can accommodate RVs up to 22 feet.
  • Groups with more than 100 people will need to consider going to the Elks Picnic Ground or the Long Valley Work Center.

  • Check in: 2 p.m.
  • Check out: 12 p.m.

  • Large refrigerated semi-trucks will not be permitted. Other special equipment must be pre-approved.
  • No utility hookups or dump station.
  • Abide by fire restrictions when in effect.
  • Licensed off-road vehicles may be used only for entering or leaving campsite.
  • 14-day stay limit.
  • RVs and trailers up to 22 feet can be accommodated in Simmons and Spooner Pods. Ernst Pod is best suited for tents.

$85 per night for groups of 10 to 50 people. 

Group-Use Campgrounds are part of the Recreation Enhancement Act that allows the Mogollon Rim Ranger District to use 95% of the fees collected for that site's maintenance and improvements.

Pets must remain leashed.

Location: Approximately 40 miles southwest of Winslow, 50 miles northeast of Payson and 70 miles southeast of Flagstaff.

Access: From Flagstaff drive 55 miles south on Lake Mary Road to State Route 87 at Clints Well. Turn left and drive approximately 9 miles to milepost 298.8. Turn right on Forest Road 138 and drive about one mile to the campground.

Moqui Group Campground facilities include potable water, garbage service, ground grills, large pedestal barbeque grills, picnic tables, horseshoe courts, an amphitheater and restrooms.
