Blue Range Wilderness
The 29,304 acre Blue Range Wilderness was designated in 1980 and is located on the western border of New Mexico and is managed by the Gila National Forest. It adjoins the Blue Range Primitive Area, which is managed by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Arizona.
General Information
New Mexico's Blue Range Wilderness is tucked into the Blue Range Mountains and halved by the Mogollon Rim. Grassland foothills rise to juniper woodland and higher up to peaks forested in ponderosa pine, spruce and fir.
You can consider crossing the wilderness via 8.8-mile WS Mountain Trail, which starts at Pueblo Park Campground, continues along the rugged Pueblo Creek and Bear Creek drainages, and ends in Arizona. Trail markers can be difficult to find. Water is ephemeral, and if found should be filtered.
