Juniper Campground

Juniper Campground is Quemado Ranger District's most popular campground. It offers full RV hookups, leveled tent sites, and easy lake access. Maximum RV size is 35'.

Odd-numbered electrical sites (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17) are available for reservation on Recreation.gov.

General Information

 All Gila NF campgrounds have a 14 day stay limit. Juniper Campground will be open from May 12 - Sept. 24, 2023.

Fee payment by self-service fee envelope or see campground host.

Permits are required for commercial or organized uses.

  • There is a 14 day stay limit on all campgrounds on the Gila National Forest and the portion of the Apache Forest located in New Mexico.
  • OHV/ATV use is prohibited in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area.
  • Hunting and target shooting is prohibited in the recreation area.
  • All dogs must be on a leash at all times in the campground.
  • No tents are allowed in the RV loop.
  • Horses are prohibited in the Quemado Lake Recreation Area. Horse camping is allowed outside the Quemado Lake Recreation Area at El Caso Campground.

Overnight Use:
Single Site: $15 per night
Single Site with electric hook-up: $25
Double site: $25 per night

Single sites cost $15 per night; double sites cost $25 per night. There are 17 RV sites with hookups and the fee is $25 per night, and odd-numbered electrical sites (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17) are available for reservation on Recreation.gov. These sites can accommodate a 35' RV.  The America the Beautiful Interagency Senior and Access Passes are honored for a 50% discount on camping fees.

Pets must be leashed in the campground and other developed sites within the Quemado Lake Recreation Area.

Please contact the Gila National Forest Supervisors Office at 575-388-8201 for information about outfitters and guides who are authorized to operate on the forest.

Directions

Just west of Quemado, take New Mexico Highway 32 south approximately 14 miles to Quemado Lake / New Mexico Highway 103 sign. Turn left onto New Mexico Highway 103 and go 4 miles to Forest Road 13. Continue straight on Forest Road 13 for 1.4 miles to Juniper Campground. Turn right into campground.

 

Travel Considerations

The Quemado RD recommends that if a winter storm is coming that visitors vacate the campground or risk being stuck. For more information, please call 575-773-4678.
