Saddle Ridge Trail

Located in the northeast part of the Mazatzal Wilderness area, Saddle Ridge trail passes through a large pinyon-juniper forest and crosses the East Verde River near LF Ranch. A substantial portion of this trail is part of the Arizona National Scenic Trail and is maintained regularly however, the Northern section of this trail may be primitive and difficult to navigate. Users should be comfortable with backcountry travel and have sharp navigation skills.

This trail is part of Passage 25A of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. https://www.fs.usda.gov/azt

Use of any mechanized or motorized travel is prohibited on this trail. No more than 15 people are allowed to be in a group. No more than 15 head of livestock are allowed in a group.

Getting There

Trailhead/Starting Points

Trail is located in the Mazatzal Wilderness on the Payson Ranger District. There is no direct vehicle access for the Southern end but the Northern end can be accessed via Motorized Trail #MT-154 that can be accessed via Forest Road #428. 

Directions

Directions are to the trail's Southern start: From Payson Take Main Street West and follow it as it turns into Country Club Dr and then into Forest Road # 406 Doll Baby. Roughly 10 miles from intersection of State Route #87 and Main Street. Trail starts at 111°28'10"W 34°13'13"N heading Southwest into the Mazatzal Wilderness once it leave Doll Baby Road.
