YANKEE MEADOWS-CAMPING RESTRICTIONS 

PROHIBITIONS: Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50(a), the following acts are prohibited in the area described in this order, all within the Yankee Meadows and Bowery Creek drainage area on the Cedar City Ranger District, Dixie National Forest, until further notice: 

          1. Camping in an undesignated area or site 36 CFR 261.58 (e) 

          2. Leaving camping trailers and other vehicles used for camping unattended in a dispersed campsite for over 72 hours  36 CFR 261.58 (g) 

DEFINITIONS: 
          1. Camping: The temporary use of National Forest System lands for the purpose of overnight occupancy without a permanently-fixed structure. 
          2. Camping equipment: Personal property used in or suitable for camping, includes any vehicle used for transportation and all equipment in possession of a person camping. 
          3. Designated Areas or Sites: Locations identified by a tent symbol with a number and the words “DISPERSED CAMPSITE”. 

EXEMPTIONS
Pursuant to Title 36 CFR 261.50 (e) the following uses are exempted from the prohibition contained in this order: 
          1. Persons with a permit specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission will be exempt from the effects of this order. 
          2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty. 
          3. Any Federal or State administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty. 

AREA DESCRIBED
The area on the Cedar City Ranger District, Dixie National Forest that includes the Yankee Meadows designated dispersed camping area, including associated roads and meadows. It is approximately 7 miles southeast of Parowan City, Utah along the Bowery Creek road off of Highway 143, ranging in elevation from 8,150 feet to 9,060 feet. The area is located on National Forest lands in Sec. 16, 17, 20, 21, 29, and 30, T.35S, R8W, Salt Lake Basin Meridian Included within this closure are lands within a 1-mile radius of the Yankee Meadow Developed Campground, and for 1 mile along Forest Road 30049, from the south end of the State-administered lands at Yankee Meadows Reservoir to just below the junction with Forest Road 30048 (see attached map). 

PURPOSE: 
The purpose of this order is to protect soil, water, and vegetation resources from impacts associated with recreational use and camping along the Bowery Creek drainage and within the Yankee Meadows and associated riparian areas, and to enhance the recreation experience for those using the area. 

IMPLEMENTATION
          1. This Order will be in effect when signed and shall remain in effect until June 10, 2025, or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. 
          2. Violation of the above prohibition(s) is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000.00 for an individual or $10,000.00 for an organization, and/or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months.
