Chalk Creek Trailhead

Overview
The Chalk Creek Trailhead is located east of Fillmore, Utah along Forest Road 100 at an elevation of 5,555 feet. 

Natural Features
This trailhead is in the lower section of Chalk Creek Canyon and is surrounded by mixed brush, pinyon and juniper trees.

Facilities
The site has a small dirt surface parking area, loading ramp and an information kiosk.

Recreation
OHV riding on designated routes, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, stream fishing and wildlife viewing are fun activities available nearby.  Paiute Side Trails #03 and #07 are accessible from the trailhead and are open to vehicles 50 inches or less in width. Chalk Creek Road is open to all vehicles. Please stay on designated routes and pack-out what you pack-in.

General Information

April - November

  • Camping at trailhead is prohibited.
  • All motorized travel is restricted to designated travel routes. Cross country travel, driving around closed gates and width restriction barriers, and driving on meadows is prohibited.
  • Pack out all trash and follow leave no trace principles.
  • Use existing site and park only on durable surfaces (not vegetation).
  • Avoid creating new trails.
  • All OHVs are required to be registered and display a permit or sticker for riding on public lands.

  • Clean up dog waste and dispose of it properly.
  • Keep dogs from chasing, harassing, and disturbing wildlife, livestock or other visitors.
  • Yield to other hikers, horses, and other trail users by stepping off the trail and controlling your dog.
  • Pets must be leashed at all times within this recreation area. This policy is in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors and to protect wildlife.

Directions

The Chalk Creek Trailhead is located approximately 3.3 miles east of Fillmore, Utah. From Fillmore, turn east on 200 south (Main Street) and travel 3.3 miles on Chalk Creek Canyon Road (FR100). Trailhead will be on the left.

Parking

Dirt and gravel parking area that can accommodate 4-5 trucks with utility trailers.

Horse/Pack Animal Information

Horse/Pack animals are allowed at this site.

  • Please stay on designated trails.
  • Use weed-free hay to prevent the spread of invasive plant species.
  • Tie horses to trees in a way that won't damage the tree.

Day Hikes Info

A few options for short day hikes in the foothills and creek bottom are available on ATV routes and a few hiking trails. Recommend early and late season use due to the elevation and heat issues in the summer months.

Access to the Paiute Side Trail #03, Paiute Side Trail #07, Horse Hollow, Moutain Sheep, and Dry Creek is available from this trailhead. These routes are open only to vehicles 50 inches or less in width.

Large side-by-sides can access FR100 up Chalk Creek Canyon to the Pahvant ridge and the main Paiute Trail
