Know Fire & Other Restrictions Before You Go!: These conditions can affect your entire trip. For example, Extreme and Critical fire use restrictions mean no campfires and no portable cooking systems/stoves. Bring cold food and no S'mores.

Vehicles must display a valid Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Interagency Pass.

Day use only. No overnight camping/parking.

Pets must be "...crated, caged, or upon a leash not longer than six feet, or otherwise under physical restrictive control".

Getting There

Directions

Fawnskin Picnic Area is located behind the Crystal Lake Visitor Center.

Crystal Lake Recreation Area / Campground is located at the top of highway CA-39 (mile marker 38.13).

Travel Considerations

  • Please ensure your vehicle has enough fuel/battery for your entire trip including return. No gas/charging stations are available within the National Forest.
  • No cell signal or wifi/internet service.
  • Snow conditions may require chains and/or 4x4.

Parking

Parking Lot: Vehicles must display a valid Adventure Pass or America the Beautiful Interagency Pass.

Facility and Amenity Information

Water

Potable water is available at this site.

Water is available from ground spigots in each camping loop along the paved roadways; however, bringing enough water for your trip is always recommended.
