    This temporary closure for OHVs, bicycles and equestrians is triggered after 1.5 inches of rainfall, and is lifted after a 48 hour period of drying weather; it affects all other Rock Creek Trails not part of the Critical Deer Winter Range. Call 530-344-6477 for the status of the trails.

Eldorado National Forest 
Rock Creek Wet Weather Trail Closure 

Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(b), and to protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the Georgetown Ranger District of the Eldorado National Forest.  This Order is effective from November, 22 2024 until June 30, 2025.  

  1. Using a vehicle on any National Forest System trail within the Rock Creek Recreational Trails Area, as shown on Exhibit A and listed in Exhibit B. 36 CFR 261.55(b).
  2. Possessing a horse on any National Forest System trail within the Rock Creek Recreational Trail System, as shown on Exhibit A and listed in Exhibit B. 36 CFR 261.58(s).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order: 

  1. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
  2. Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty. These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR 261, Subpart A. 

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571 and 3581.
