Small boat or hike in campground on the east shore of Loon Lake campground. Access via the Loon Lake Trailhead or boat ramp at Loon Lake Campground.

General Information

CAUTION: Bears in the area. Keep all foods, soaps and garbage properly stored in bear boxes.

Also, properly dispose of human waste to stop contaminated water supplies, soil and disease plus attracting wildlife, and spoiling a camping area.

  • Portable, eco‐friendly human waste disposal systems  are commercially available so you can to safely "Pack It Out."
  • As a last resort, choose a spot at least 200 feet away from water sources and campsites. Dig a small hole at least six inches deep; cover it when you are done. Seal your toilet paper in a bag, pack it out, and dispose of properly.  
  • Keep in mind, the granite landscape in this popular area provides few spots to bury human waste.

  • Free California Campfire permit required due to remote location. Available at any Forest Service office.
  • Camping Fires: Please use the grill or fire ring provided. Use only dead and down wood for your campfires. And make sure your fire is dead out before leaving, using only water, not soil.
  • Maximum Stay Limit: 14 days per district per year

No fees are required for this site

  • Keep family pets on a leash at all times.
  • Please cleanup after your pet.

No piped water available at the campground. Bring water. 

  • Lake water available close by but should be boiled or filtered before using.
  • Water quality testing is not performed on open water sources.
