Mammoth Pass - Red Cones
Starting from Horseshoe Lake of the Mammoth Lakes Basin, this trail goes past McCloud Lake and over the relatively gentle Mammoth Pass. Several trail junctions offer options to access the John Muir trail near Crater Meadow or Reds Meadow.

General Information
Open 24h/day, 7 days/week
- Wilderness permit required year round for overnight trips.
- Day use does not require a permit.
- May 1 through November 1 overnight visitors are limited to 15 people per day
- No campfires at all locations above 10,000 ft.; no campfires at some additional specific areas below 10,000ft. Maps of Campfire Restrictions.
- Food, trash and scented items must be stored in bear proof containers.
- No camping at McCloud Lake.
- Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness regulations.
- Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon wilderness regulations apply if entering the National Parks.
Dogs must be leashed within the Town of Mammoth Lakes jurisdiction. (See Dogs on Inyo National Forest)

Leave Hwy 395 at Mammoth Lakes, Hwy 203 and follow Lake Mary Road. Follow the signs to Horseshoe Lake. The trailhead parking is a paved lot with a turnaround.
