John Muir Trail - South of Devils Postpile
The John Muir Trail extends from Mount Whitney to Yosemite National Park. This entry point is for the section of John Muir trail south of Devils Postpile.
When requesting a permit, if you intend to exit using Trail Crest at Mt. Whitney you must select an overnight exiting Mount Whitney permit as there is also a quota for this exit.

Road closed in winter.
Visitors to the Reds Meadow Valley pay a per-person transportation fee which allows use of the mandatory shuttle bus. Call Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center for more information. (760) 924-5500.
- Wilderness permit required year round for overnight trips.
- Day use does not require a permit.
- May 1 through November 1 overnight visitors are limited to 10 people per day.
Water from creeks, lakes and springs should be treated before drinking.
- No camping within 300 feet of the outlets of Duck and Purple Lakes.
- No campfires at all locations above 10,000 ft.; and no campfires at Duck Creek or Purple Lake. Maps of Campfire Rrestrictions.
- Food, trash and scented items must be stored in bear proof containers.
- This permit does not include trips to Fish Creek, Fern Lake, Beck Lake, Minaret Lake or north of Devils Postpile.
- Groups cannot be larger than 15 people (includes day use).
- Ansel Adams and John Muir Wilderness regulations.
- Sequoia and Kings Canyon wilderness regulations apply if entering the National Park.

Directions
Leave Hwy 395 at Hwy 203 to the town of Mammoth Lakes. Turn right on Minaret Road and go to Mammoth Mountain Adventure Center (Main Lodge) for long term parking and to board the mandatory shuttle to the trailhead. Shuttle stop #6 is Devils Postpile Visitor Center. The Rainbow Falls trailhead, shuttle stop #8 or Reds Meadows resort, stop #10, can be used as an alternate entry point.
