Sherwin Lakes Trail
A moderately steep climb goes 2.5 miles to Sherwin Lakes which is not within the wilderness. A wilderness permit is required for camping here. If you are camping at Lost Lake or Valentine Lake, a wilderness permit for Valentine Lake trail is required.

General Information
If you will be overnight in John Muir Wilderness book a permit for Valentine Lake Trail
- Wilderness permit requred year round for overnight trips
- Day use does not require a permit
- May 1 through November 1 quota limits visitors on Valentine Lake trail to 8 people per day.
Water from creeks, lakes and springs should be treated before drinking.
- California Campfire permit required to opperate a stove if you will stay at Sherwin Lakes.
- Food, trash and scented items must be stored in bear proof containers or counter balanced.

Getting There
Directions
Exit Hwy 395 to Mammoth Lakes on Hwy 203. From the Town of Mammoth Lakes, follow Old Mammoth Rd to Sherwin Creek dirt road. West of Sherwin Creek campground and picnic area there is a small dirt lot marked for trailhead parking to Sherwin Lakes. Beyond Sherwin Campground (east) is the alternate trail to Valentine Lake.
