Adjacent to Whitney Portal Campground, Whitney Portal Group has 3 walk in tent sites for larger groups. Firewood, fire grates, tables, restrooms.

General Information

Traveling in Bear Country

Historically, there has been a high level of bear activity in the Mt. Whitney area. A bear-proof locker is located at each site at Whitney Portal Group Campground. All food and scented items must be stored in the lockers. All trash must be disposed of in the bear proof trash receptacles. Do not store food, trash or scented items in your vehicle.

Quiet hours are 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.

Tents only. No sleeping in vehicles. No motorhomes, pop up van, campers, or sleeping trailers. Active bear area, bear boxes are provided and must be used (typical bear box size 48" x 30" x 36").

Directions

From Highway 395 in Lone Pine, CA, turn west (at the stoplight) onto Whitney Portal Road and go 12.5 miles to the campground entrance. The road is usually open from May to November, depending on snow conditions.
