Eagle Falls Picnic Area and Trailhead

This area can be extremely crowded on weekends. Please consider visiting in the early morning or late afternoon for a more relaxing experience.

Eagle Falls Picnic Area and Trailhead is located on Highway 89 across the highway from Emerald Bay on the south shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe. The trailhead is located in a shaded area at approximately 7,100 feet in elevation. 

Opening and closing dates are dependent on weather, but the trailhead is typically open from mid-May through mid-October. Restrooms and some picnic tables are available and a parking fee is required. Eagle Falls serves as a trailhead for Desolation Wilderness. Campfires (wood, charcoal or any other solid fuels) are not permitted.

Parking Fee

Pets should be kept on leash and pet owners should pack out pet waste or bury it 6-8 inches deep.

From South Lake Tahoe: Take Highway 89 northwest from the City of South Lake Tahoe approximately 9 miles to the trailhead, which is located across the highway from Emerald Bay.

From Truckee and Tahoe City: Take Highway 89 south to Emerald Bay.
