Pope Beach

Pope Beach is located on National Forest lands and is approximately three-quarters of a mile long with a sandy beach, excellent swimming, picnicking opportunities and incredible views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra Nevada. Kayak rentals and a food concession are typically available onsite. Pope Beach is easily accessible by bicycle via the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path. No pets are allowed. Campfires (wood, charcoal or any other solid fuels) are not permitted. Portable propane stoves with on/off valves are allowed with a valid permit.

From Tahoe City: Take Highway 89 south around Emerald Bay approximately 25 miles and look for the entrance on the left.

From South Lake Tahoe: Take Highway 89 northwest approximately three miles and look for the entrance on the right.

General Information

Summers are typically warm and dry, though nighttime temperatures can be cold and afternoon thundershowers often build over the mountains. Snow is possible during any month of the year. Be prepared for changeable weather and bring clothing that will keep you warm and dry.
