LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST ROAD USE RESTRICTION
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(b), and to provide for public safety, the following act is prohibited within the Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest. This Order is effective from January 30, 2025, through January 29, 2027.
Being on Forest Road No. 19S05 (Sycamore Canyon Road), except within a motor vehicle, pursuant to 40 C.F.R. § 85.1703, from its intersection with State Highway 1, in the northeastern quarter of Section 31, Township 19 South, Range 2 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, then continuing west for approximately two and a half miles to its terminus at Pfeiffer Beach Day Use Area, at the western edge of Section 36, Township 19 South, Range 1 East, as shown on the attached map. 36 C.F.R. § 261.54(b).
Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:
- Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty;
- Owners or lessees of land in the area, to the extent necessary to access their land;
- Residents in the area, to the extent necessary to access their residences;
Persons engaged in a business, trade, or occupation are not exempt from the prohibitions listed above, but may use National Forest System roads to the extent necessary to carry out their business, trade, or occupation.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A.
A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
