Recreation Opportunities

Day Hikes Info

Experience this 10.5-mile out-and-back trail near Lucia, California. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 5 h 38 min to complete. This is a popular trail for backpacking, camping, and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be on a leash. There is a lot of poison oak, so keep your eye out for the plant along the route.

The parking area is a gravel pull-off right near the trailhead. You may park down Route 1 if needed.

There are 2 campsites, one at 3 miles, and one at 6 miles. There is water at a creek about a quarter-mile past the second camp. Campfires are not allowed in the Ventana Wilderness indefinitely.

With a CalFire permit, you may use a small stove.

Cell service in the area is unreliable, so it's a good idea to download an offline map ahead of time or bring a paper copy as a backup.
