Empire Lakes (North, Middle, South)

This off the beaten path, but easily accessed chain of three beautiful lakes totaling 6.1 acres, is a great place for anglers wishing to catch 8 to 10 inch Eastern Brook Trout. Elevation is 3,622 feet. These are non-motorized lakes and there is a minimally developed boat launch on the northern shoreline next to several dispersed campsites. Two-pole fishing is allowed and shoreline access is generally good, but limited in areas by trees and brush. The lake is so quiet  you can hear waterfowl calling across the lake and observe whitetail deer coming in at dusk from the forested landscape to drink from the lake. There are no amenities offered, but a person can find a rustic place or two for tent camping. Grocery, camping and fishing supplies can be restocked 11 miles south in the quaint, old fashion mining town of Republic.
