Cancelled Prescribed Burn Northeast of La Pine Due to Unfavorable Conditions Today
Central Oregon, May 16, 2025 — Due to unfavorable conditions, firefighters have cancelled prescribed burning northeast of La Pine today. Thor Units 11 and 12 Prescribed Burn was planned for up to 236 acres of ignitions along Paulina Lake Road, approximately one mile west of Ogden Group Camp. Burning is cancelled in these units due to significant precipitation overnight. Firefighters will continue to look for opportunities to conduct this prescribed burn this spring.
Firefighters implement understory prescribed burning to reduce wildfire risk to communities. Prescribed burning reintroduces and maintains fire within our fire-dependent ecosystem by removing concentrations of vegetation and restoring forest health while increasing public and firefighter safety.
