Lookout Mountain-Monogram Lake Trail 743
This trail is very steep and gains elevation rapidly with continual switchbacks the first 2.5 miles. Find the first campsites at 2 miles near a creek. At 2.8 miles you will arrive at a junction in the trail.
Turning left will take you to Lookout Mountain Lookout; right to the Monogram Lake Trail. The trail to Lookout Mountain stays in the forest for .75 miles before breaking out into high open meadows.
The lookout was built in 1962, replacing a 1929 structure. The lookout offers spectacular views of Teebone Ridge, Hidden Lake Peak, Eldorado Peak and other icy Cascade peaks.
Warning: Limit the number of people to two people per side on the lookout catwalks to prevent them from collapsing.
To reach Monogram Lake, turn right at the 2.8-mile junction and continue 2.1 miles to the lake. The trail enters the North Cascades National Park soon after leaving the junction, opens to subalpine meadows, climbs to a 5,400-foot ridge and descends to the lake at 4,800 feet elevation.
Please use a backcountry stove in place of building a campfire in keeping with Leave No Trace Principles.
