Horseshoe Ridge Trail #774

Trail access is affected by recreational gate closure on Dec 1st – April 1st annually. Spring snow may delay gate opening.

This trail enters the Mt Hood Wilderness. The highest part of the trail enters alpine terrain on Zigzag Mountain’s ridgeline. A long loop can be done by combining Horseshoe Ridge Trail with segments of Zigzag Mountain Trail #775 and Cast Creek Trail #773.

The trail begins at Cast Creek, Horseshoe Ridge, Sandy River Trailhead near Riley Horse Camp, and ends at Trail #775. The trail begins in what is known as the “Old Maid Flat” area. The ¾ mile of this trail is relatively flat.

No bridge over Lost Creek. Expect shallow stream crossings after Lost Creek.

At Lost Creek, there is an area for stock to ford. The trail begins a steady 3.9 mile climb along Horseshoe Ridge. The trail ends as it breaks out of treeline on Zigzag Mountain.
