Heather Maple Pass (Rainy Pass Picnic Site)

This forested, paved trailhead has shady picnic spots and that gives access to Rainy Lake Trail #310, an easy, fully accessible, paved trail with no elevation gain. The trailhead also gives access to Lake Ann and Heather Maple Pass Loop Trail #740.

General Information

Not accessible during the winter season when North Cascades Scenic Highway (State Route 20) is closed. 

A national park backcountry permit is required for overnight camping in the national park. A permit can be obtained from North Cascades National Park. 

  • No overnight camping allowed within 1/4 mile of Rainy Lake, Lake Ann, Heather Pass, or Maple Pass.
  • Trail closed to pack and saddle stock, motorized and mechanized travel.

$30 per annual

Directions

From Winthrop, drive west on State Route 20 about 35 miles to Rainy Pass. Park in the south parking lot on the left side of the highway.

Parking

Parking is very limited and fills quickly. Please follow all posted signage. Do not block emergency vehicle access or impede the roadway. Be prepared to choose another hike if parking is full.
