Marley Fire Daily Update
September 5, 2025
Size: 43 acres
Location: 19 miles SW of La Grande, OR Start Date: Sep. 2, 2025
Containment: 0% Cause: Lightning
La Grande, Oregon – The Northeast Oregon Type 3 Team remains engaged on the Marley Fire, as well as the Swan and Pickle fires. All fires started during the recent lightning storms that passed through the area.
The Marley Fire, the largest of the fires, is now more accurately mapped at 43 acres. The previous estimate of 75 acres was based on initial observation; updated mapping has provided a more precise measurement of the fire footprint.
Today, crews plan to conduct strategic firing operations along the northeast side of the fire to strengthen containment lines and reduce unburned fuels between the fire and the established control lines. Crews continue to hold and improve containment lines to the northwest and southern edges. Current resources include aerial support, three dozers, multiple crews and engines from Forest Service, Oregon Department of Forestry and contractors.
The other fires are monitored daily and firefighters will engage as necessary. Due to predicted thunderstorms that may bring lightning, firefighters are prepared to engage in any starts that may occur.
Weather – Mostly sunny conditions continue today, with slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Additional lightning is also expected over the weekend.
