Carpenter Mountain Lookout

Staffing: Currently staffed by McKenzie River Ranger District.

This lookout, situated atop a basalt plug, offers an impressive view of the McKenzie River Valley, Wolf Rock (an exposed monolith), the Cascade Crest, Mt. Jefferson & Three Fingered Jack, the Three Sisters peaks, and Mt. Washington, plus  Sand Mountain Lookout.

The hike is short with impressive rock formations and never fails to awe visitors. 

The lookout is staffed during fire season and not available for public rental.

Getting There

Directions

From Blue River, OR, travel 3 miles east on Highway 126 to Forest Road 15.  

Turn right on Forest Road 15, heading north to Forest Road 1506.

Turn right on Forest Road 1506, heading east up Lookout Creek to Forest Road 350.  

Turn left on Forest Road 350, heading north 5 miles to Carpenter Mountain Trailhead.  

Follow Carpenter Mountain Trail #3302 uphill to Carpenter Mountain Lookout.
