Hand Lake Trailhead

This trailhead provides access to:

  • Hand Lake Cutoff
  • Hand Lake Trail #3513
  • Scotty Way Trail #4345

Current Conditions
Access is dependent on McKenzie Highway (OR Hwy 242), which is closed in the winter. For current conditions, please contact the local ranger station. Forest Service roads are not maintained for snow and ice.

General Information

Access is dependent on McKenzie Highway (OR Hwy 242), which is closed in the winter. Check tripcheck.com for conditions. 

There are two types of entry permits required between June 15 and October 15 for entering the Mt. Washington Wilderness from this trailhead.

  • Overnight Use
  • Day Use
    • Free, self-issue Wilderness Permit (available at the trailhead) between June 15 and October 15.

Directions

From McKenzie Bridge, OR, travel east on Highway 126 to Highway 242. Travel east on Highway 242 for 16 miles to Hand Lake Trailhead. The Trailhead is on the left (northwest) side of the highway, parking is on the right (southeast) side.
