Reservations

General Information

There are two types of entry permits required between June 15 and October 15 for entering the Mt. Washington Wilderness from this trailhead.

  • Overnight Use
    • Central Cascades Wilderness Permit between June 15 and October 15.
  • Day Use
    • Free, self-issue Wilderness Permit (available at the trailhead) between June 15 and October 15.

Within developed recreation sites, dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, or otherwise under physical restrictive control. 36 CFR 261.16(j)

Getting There

Directions

From McKenzie Bridge, OR, drive east on Highway 126 about 24 miles to Highway 20. Continue east on Highway 20 about 7 miles and turn right (south) on Forest Road 2690 (Hoodoo turnoff). Drive about 4 miles to Patjens Lake Trailhead on your right, located at the west end of Big Lake.
