Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Management Area
Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Management Area is cooperatively managed with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to promote and sustain native wildlife populations. Located approximately 10 miles south of Morehead, KY, the area is almost completely forested with some scattered openings. The terrain is mostly rugged with some gently sloping areas on the ridge-tops and in the creek valleys.
This 7,610-acre tract is designated for hunting with the same tools and methods as early pioneers and Native Americans. Hunters must use "primitive weapons," like muzzle-loading firearms, bows or crossbows, when hunting in this area. For specific weapons restrictions, please see the KY Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources Pioneer Weapons WMA Regulations.
