Volusia Wharf Boat Ramp

One of the rare spots where a boater can directly reach Lake George without having to cross the Volusia Bar, the Volusia Wharf Boat Ramp is an unpaved ramp leading into a dredged channel through the bar. Swing right, and head upriver into Astor; go straight to head into the shallows of Lake George.

Navigating Lake George takes some skill and a trustworthy depthfinder. The lake is broad and very shallow. A breeze will kick up whitecaps quickly. Be aware of weather conditions when you are boating on Lake George.

Boating

  • Launching your boat, canoe and kayak from this unimproved boat ramp allows you to access both the St. John River and Lake George.

Fishing

  • Lake Geroge is a relaxing place to fish, with small coves along the cypress-lined shoreline.

General Information

Lake George has a boater exclusion zone used by the US Air Force for bombing practice. Be sure you consult your navigational maps to steer clear of this zone.
