Norway Lake Campground

Norway Lake Campground is located 8 miles southeast of Sidnaw on the Kenton Ranger District. This two-loop campground provides visitors with a unique camping experience among the towering Red Pines. Each campsite is naturally screened by vegetation. It features 27 drive-in sites that can accommodate tents, trailers and motor homes. Each site offers a wood table, fire ring, lantern post and parking spur. Three sets of vault toilets, two hand pumps for drinking water, and a picnic shelter are located within the campground loops. Adjacent to the campground is a boat landing, parking areas, change house, and picnic area.

General Information

Camping

Norway Lake Campground, located on the Kenton Ranger District, provides visitors with a unique camping experience among the towering Red Pines. Each site is naturally screened by vegetation. It provides 27 drive-in sites that can accommodate tents, trailers and motor homes.  Each site offers a tent pad, wood table, fire ring, lantern post and parking spur. Three sets of outdoor toilet facilities as well has two hand pumps for water are located in the campground. Adjacent to the campground is a boat landing.

Seasonal Information
The campground is scheduled to open with full services the Friday before Memorial Day.  This date is subject to change, please contact the Kenton Ranger District for additional information.

Camping in a developed recreation site is allowed for a period not longer than 14 days, except as otherwise posted. After this time, you must move to another campground or dispersed site for at least 24 hours. Campers must occupy the site the first night. Eight people and 2 motorized vehicles are allowed per campsite with a maximum of one RV or camper trailer and two tents per camping site or three tents per camping site.

Directions

Norway Lake Campground is located in Iron County 8 miles south of Sidnaw on the Kenton Ranger District.

From Sidnaw, Mi., take Sidnaw Road south approximately 5 ½ miles to FR 2400, turn left onto FR 2400 and travel 2 miles to campground.

From Iron River, Mi., take County Road 657 north approximately 15 miles, turn slight right onto FR 2130, travel approximately 9 ½ miles on FR 2130 to Sidnaw Road, turn right onto Sidnaw Road and travel 3 ½ miles north, turn right onto FR 2400 and travel 2 miles to campground.

Closest Towns: Sidnaw, MI, is 8 miles to the north and Iron River, Mi. is 30 miles to the southeast

Viewing Wildlife Info

Deer Marsh Interpretive Trail is looped and approximately 3 miles long, located on rolling, sandy ground. The difficulty of the trail goes from easy, to medium, with a little degree of difficulty. Gravel has been placed on approximately 1/2 mile of the trail. There are several interpretive signs along the trail. There is also a puncheon bridge that crosses a beaver dam and two viewing platforms along the trail. The trail takes you through pine forest and northern hardwoods along the shore of Deer Marsh. From M-28 in Sidnaw, take Sidnaw Road south approximately 7 miles to its junction with FR 2125 (Martin Lake Road). Turn left and follow FR 2125 for approximately 1/8 mile. The parking area for Deer Marsh Interpretive Trail will be on your left. The trail can be accessed at another trail head located at Lake Ste Kathryn Campground. To access via this trailhead you would continue south on Sindaw Road for about 1 1/2 miles until you come to the Lake Ste Kathryn Campground. It will be on your right. Turn right to the campground and the Deer Marsh trailhead will be on your immediate left.

Norway Lake is a great get-a-way for those that want to be out away from it all and enjoy some great fishing. This lake with its adjacent campground is a popular destination for the outdoorsmen, located on the southern portion of the Kenton Ranger District in Iron County.
