Brush Piles Along Highway 150 and Wheeler Peak Trail (#90)
Alert
Date(s): Jun 5, 2024
Contact(s): Zach Behrens, 575-758-6303

Piles from forest thinning last year are visible throughout the Highway 150 corridor, including from campgrounds and trailheads, between the forest boundary and Taos Ski Valley.
Piles are also visible along the Wheeler Peak Trail (#90) for the first two miles, which is between the Bull of the Woods Trailhead and the Gold Hill Trail (#64) junction.
Fire crews plan to burn the piles in fall 2024 or winter 2025. The work is part of the Wildfire Crisis Strategy, a national effort to reduce the threat of wildfire to communities, infrastructure and natural resources. In Northern New Mexico, the Enchanted Circle Landscape is a priority area for such work.
