What is a prescribed fire?

A burn that is meticulously planned for a specific landscape area, prepared by our highly qualified personnel, and approved by the agency administrator. This plan includes stringent criteria for the conditions under which the fire will be conducted, ensuring the utmost safety and effectiveness of the operation.

Beaver Ranger District:

  • South Beaver Prescribed Fire Project
    1,000 - 3,000 acres in the South Creek area, south of Beaver. The project area boundary lines comprise the Southern Forest Boundary just south of the Beaver/Iron County line, north to Highway 153. The eastern edge is the East Fork of Iant Creek and the Beaver/Piute County line, with the western edge being the Forest/Bureau of Land Management boundary.

  • Last Chance/Porcupine Prescribed Fire Project 
    The project comprises two units in the Last Chance area, totaling 3,915 acres, and three units in the West Tidwell, Porcupine, and other adjoining Utah areas, totaling 9,292 acres. I

  • Monroe Mountain - Signal Peak Prescription Burn Project 
    ~1,000 acres (1 acre is equivalent to the size of one football field) in the Washburn Basin area near Signal Peak and about 500 acres in the Smith Canyon area
