May 20 - 22, 2025
8:30 am - 5:00 pm
PURPOSE
The Leader as Convener Workshop (LCW) helps answer the question, How can we design more meaningful interactions to improve our collaborative work? The workshop introduces participants to mental models, methods and skills for connecting diverse people and convening important conversations that create positive influence where it is needed most.
LCW OVERVIEW
- Practical 3-day workshop designed for leaders and influencers at all levels of the Forest Service who want to learn the art and science of engaging diverse stakeholders—both internal and external—to undertake shared work together.
- Pre-workshop optional "sensing calls" where participants can share more about their challenges with collaboration, and to learn more about the workshop and approach
- Experience a set of convening methodologies (Open Space Technology, World Café, Circle Practice, Story Telling, and Design Café) and planning tools designed to build group cohesion, capture collective knowledge, and mitigate conflict, polarization and overwhelm.
- Explore leadership mindsets needed to face the challenges and opportunities of our time. Mindset elements include: Inquiry (over advocacy); Issue/Problem Defining (before solving); and Power Sharing —including confidential exploration of your power, influence and privilege based on your social demographic affiliations (race, gender, ethnicity, economic status, sexual orientation, etc.).
- Guidance for identifying questions that people care about, and methods to “harvest” or collect output from conversations, making it visible, accessible and actionable.
- Learn by experience and practice in an interactive, brave and inspiring learning environment.
- Opportunity to pause, re-energize, and connect with others who can become learning partners and collaborators.
