The Every Kid Outdoors initiative is truly a federal interagency collaboration! All federal public lands are involved! In our region, we are fortunate to have a number of public lands for recreating and for outdoor education.

Grey Towers National Historic Site: Explore the historic home of Gifford Pinchot, Governor of Pennsylvania, eminent conservationist, advisor and close friend of President Theodore Roosevelt, and First Chief of the US Forest Service, the agency Pinchot and Roosevelt founded to manage the National Forests. Learn about the ever-changing nature of our forested lands and the history of forestry in the United States with a hike along our Forest Discovery Trail.

National Park Service Logo Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area: Visit the Pocono Environmental Education Center , which includes the popular indoor exhibit, EcoZone, where you can explore and discover a beaver’s lodge, bat cave, eagle’s nest and more. Learn about how our forest and waters support wildlife as you hike the trails in this portion of the Delaware Water Gap NRA.

National Park Service Logo Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreation River: Visit the Roebling Bridge and the D&H (Delaware and Hudson) Canal and learn about this fascinating era in America! Explore the Delaware River (by kayak, canoe, raft or tube), one of the few remaining large free-flowing rivers in the United States and enjoy seeing nature from a different perspective as you scan the shores and skies for wildlife including bald eagles, black bears, deer, river otters, beavers and more.

US Fish & Wildlife Service Logo Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge : Visit this haven for more than 225 species of birds, a wide variety of fish and wildlife; and those who love to watch them. Opportunities include hiking, fishing, bird watching, kayaking and archery. Use of archery equipment and instruction to enjoy this popular indoor and outdoor activity comes at no cost to participants. In addition to self-guided kayak and canoeing on the Wallkill River, the Wallkill River NWR also sponsors Introductory Canoe and Kayak trips to the public.

Get Involved!

Attention 4^th grade teachers, students and their families!

Every Kid Outdoors is an initiative to get every 4^th grader in the nation to experience their federal lands and waters. You can visit the Every Kid Outdoors website to learn more about the program including how 4^th graders can acquire a special pass that can give them and their families free access to federal lands and waters (good for one year at federal sites throughout the nation). Once you have completed the program activities on the web site, you will be issued a paper voucher. Bring this voucher to Grey Towers National Historic Site (or contact another federal site in your area) and exchange it for a durable pass.

Current third grade students are eligible to receive their Every Kid Outdoors pass in the summer; pass availability will be announced via press release.
