What vaccinations did my horse receive while in holding?
West Nile- Tetanus - Rhinopneumonitis (EVH-1 & EVH-4) - Influenza (A2) – Rabies - Selenium/Vitamin E Injection - Noromectin Dewormer Injection
Will I receive health records when I adopt a horse?
Yes, you will receive health records detailing your horses known health history while in holding.
Will my horse come with a current Coggins?
Yes, your horse will have a current Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) aka Coggins
How do I obtain a Title for a Horse that I purchase with limitations (aka Sale Authority)?
Horses Purchase with Limitations receive “title” at the time of purchase, in the form of the Bill of Sale
How to I reassign a horse I adopted, prior to applying for Title?
As the adopter you will initiate contact with the Forest Service and confirm you would like to reassign the adopt horse. The new adopter will need to have an approved Adoption Application on file. The Forest Service will contact both parties with the appropriate paperwork. Please note, $125.00 reassignment fee does apply.
Do I get to keep a foal born to a horse I adopted?
Foals born to your wild horse have no connection to the Private Maintenance and Care Agreement or Bill of Sale. Those foals belong to their adopters. A new Private Maintenance and Care Agreement or Bill of Sale is not required, nor will the foal need to be micro chipped. However if termination of Agreement is necessary due to prohibited acts have been committed, and animals are repossessed, un-weaned foals will also be removed.
How do I find out who the Dam and/or Sire is of my horse?
Unless a horse is born in holding, its highly unlikely we know who the dam and/or sire is.
When was my horse gathered?
We can provide a month and year for most horses, and an exact date for those gathered more recent. Contact us @ sm.fs.modoc_info@usda.gov
