Fuel Cell Failure and Success

The first stationary fuel cell system in the Forest Service (and in Wyoming) was installed at the Big Goose Ranger Station in 2005. The fuel cells were removed in late September 2006 because the system did not perform reliably. The tech tip "Fuel Cell Failure and Success: Big Goose Ranger Station and the Exit Glacier Nature Center" (0773–2318–MTDC) summarizes the project and what was learned from it, while explaining why a similar fuel cell installation was successful at the National Park Service's Exit Glacier Nature Center in Kenai Fjords National Park, AK.
