A Gutter Cleaner Can Help Protect Whitebark Pine Cones

Hungry Clark's nutcrackers and red squirrels feast on whitebark pine cones unless the cones are protected. The tech tip "Tree Tong Puts Whitebark Pine Cones Within Reach" (0624–2354–MTDC) shows how to fashion a 30-foot aluminum pole and a tong used to clean gutters into a device for installing wire mesh cages over cones.

The tree tong is an efficient tool for safely installing cages up to 30 feet above the ground and a good choice for plucking ripe cones from trees.
