 What is an Environmental Impact Statement?

The Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) identifies:

• the action the Forest Service wants to undertake on a specific land area at a specific time.
• why the action needs to be taken and how it will help meet the objectives of the Forest Plan or plan amendment.
• alternative ways to implement the action based upon issues raised during scoping.
• the environmental consequences of implementing those alternatives.
