Projects

The Land and Resource Management Plan for the Daniel Boone National Forest (Forest Plan) guides the coordination of multiple uses of the Forest while promoting sustained yields of services and products. Such uses include outdoor recreation, clean waters, fish and wildlife, timber and minerals. Forest Plan goals and objectives provide sideboards for new projects and are designed to move the Forest towards the desired future conditions described in the Forest Plan. These project proposals are subject to resource analysis in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.

The Forest Service follows NEPA regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Under this rule, Forest Service officials determine which proposed projects are shared for public input.

The agency no longer issues a schedule of proposed actions (SOPA) report. Below is the current list of proposed projects available for review—your opportunity to learn more, share feedback, and stay engaged in decisions that shape the future of our public lands.

This project covers refurbishment of small infrastructure and signage across the DBNF. Signs, kiosks, picnic tables, etc. would be replaced or renovated at trailheads, campgrounds, picnic areas and other designated sites across the Forest.

Conduct deferred maintenance and minor repairs to all vault toilets/ waterless restrooms across the DBNF, such as pressure washing, painting, repairing/replacing roofs and windows, repaint parking spaces, etc. No new waterlines will be installed.

Ms. Bowling needs to mow and weed eat approximately 1.5 acres of NFS that abuts her property to reduce invasive bugs and weeds on her private property. Her father has held this permit before- this authorization changes the name on the permit.

The City of McKee needs to remove a dam and related infrastructure for health and human safety issues and restore the reservoir to a more natural state.

To clean up the environment and reduce air pollution, this project would plug 81 abandoned oil and gas wells and remove related infrastructure on the Cumberland District of the Daniel Boone NF.

Several rows of White Pine would be removed at the base of Rebel Trace Dam to allow access to the dam's failing infrastructure. The access will allow crews to make repairs.

The Cumberland District would create and maintain a mosaic structure on approximately 5,000 acres of their designated 3.H. Ruffed Grouse Habitat Prescription Area through silvicultural treatments and prescribed fire.
