Logging operations and haul for the Phelan Better Timber Sale on the Salmon-Cobalt Ranger District is expected to begin during the week of February 10, 2025.

The main haul route will be on the Williams Creek Road, Forest System Road #60021. The road will remain open to Forest users. The Williams Creek Road is steep and narrow in places with very few turnouts.

Felling operations will begin around Cougar Point Campground. Logging operations will occur along, and adjacent to, the lower sections of the Meadow and Williams Creek cross country ski trails. Parking and access at Williams Summit, the Shoshoni trail, Muckluck trail, and Powderhouse Gulch will remain unaffected by logging operations.

Logging will continue through the winter until the ground thaws. Operations are anticipated to continue after soils dry and continue through the summer. The Forest is advising users to use caution when driving the Williams Creek Road and recreating in the area.
